2.The sum of ages of 5 children born at the interval of 3 years each is 50 years. What is the age of the youngest child ?

              SOLUTION :

              Let the age of the five children be x , ( x + 3 ) , (x + 6 ) , (x + 9) and (x + 12)   respectively.

            Sum of their ages = 50 years . Then ,

                   x + ( x+ 3 ) + ( x +6 ) + ( x+ 9 ) + ( x+12 ) = 50

                                  5x + 30 = 50                   =>   5x  =  20

                                                             =>   x = 4 years.

Thus the age of the youngest child is  4 years.

3.The cost price of 20 mangoes is same as the selling price of X mangoes. If the profit is 25% then the value of X is  ?

SOLUTION :
             Let the cost  price of 20 mangoes = Rs. 20

  • Cost price of each mango    = Rs. 1

        If the profit is 25 % then the profit = Rs. 20  * 25 / 100 = Rs. 5

   then the Selling price of 20 mangoes = Rs. 25

  • Thus the Selling price of one mango = 25 /20 = Rs. 1.25

   Value of  x =   20 / 1.25 = 16

Hence , 16 mangoes are sold at the cost price of 20 mangoes.
