SOLUTION :
Given the sum of two numbers = x
One of the numbers is y . Let the other number be z , then
X = y + z => z = x – y

2. if the cost price of 42 books is equal to the selling price of 35 books what is the gain percentage?
SOLUTION :
Let the cost price of each book = Rs. 10
Then the cost price of 42 books = Rs. 420
= Selling price of 35 books
- Selling price of one book = 420 / 35 = 12
Selling price of 42 books = 42 * 12 = Rs. 504
Gain earned = Rs. 504 – Rs. 420 = Rs. 84
Gain percentage = ( Gain * 100 ) / C.P
= 84 * 100 / 420 = 8400 / 420
= 20 %
