IS JAVA OPEN SOURCE ?
Open source software is software with source code that anyone can inspect, modify and enhance. It makes its source code available to others who would like to view that code, copy it, learn from it, alter it or share it.
Some software has source code that only the person, team or organization that created it can modify. This kind of software is called closed software.
There are two types of JDK that is Oracle JDK and Open JDK. There is no major different between open JDK and Oracle JDK. Apart from the base code Oracle JDK includes, Oracle’s implementation of Java plugin and Java webstart.
Open JDK is a free and open source implementation of java programming language. It is the result of an effort Sun Microsystems began in 2006. On Nov 13,2006, Sun released much of java as free and open source software,under the terms of the General Public License.
Oracle JDK earlier called Sun JDK then it was bought by Oracle. There is no official data on the cost of an Oracle commercial JDK license. To get one business Oracle JDK license, we have to contact Oracle sales specifically.
