2. Question on Time and Work
D can complete the work in 10 days. A alone can do a piece of work in 15 days and B alone in 20 days. How many days will take for A and B to complete the work, as working together. And the payment for that work is Rs.9000. What will be the share for A and B?
SOLUTION :
A’s one day work = 1 / 15
B’s one day work = 1 / 20
( A + B )’ s one day work = 1 / 15 + 1 / 20
= ( 3 + 4 ) / 60 = 7 / 60
Hence A and B together finish the work in 60 / 7 days = 8.57 days
Share of A = ( 60 / 7 ) * ( 1 / 15 ) of Rs. 9000
= ( 4 / 7 ) * 9000 = Rs. 5143
Share of B = ( 3 / 7 ) * 9000 = Rs. 3857

5. A person sees the mirror image of the clock at home and travels 20 Minutes to a camp. He notices that he is 2 hour and 30 minutes late. What is the time at the home when he started?
ANSWER :
First subtract 20 minutes from 2 1/2 hours to compensate for his 20 minute bike ride to give a difference of 2 hours and 10 minutes.
So, divide that 2 hours and 10 minutes by 2 and this will give you the center-point (65 minutes) for compensating for the mirror.
By adding that 65 minutes to 6 o’clock you get the time he left home (7:05), and the time he saw in the mirror (4:55).
Furthermore, by re-adding the 20 minutes from when he left (7:05), you get what time he got to camp (7:25).
